YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio -

On the same day, Jim Tressel got his contract extended as Youngstown State Universities president, he plans to meet with GM Lordstown's plant manager to offer YSU's aid.

Tressel has told 21 News that no date has been set to meet with GM, but he plans to reach out soon.

The YSU Board of Trustees and Tressel have agreed on a contract extension for another year.

His contract will now extend through June 2020.

Trustee Chair Dee Crawford said, "His vision and determination have resulted in unprecedented gains in many important areas of the university's operations. We look forward to continuing that momentum."

Tressel said that he feels much has been accomplished under his tenure and that he is still committed to YSU.

According to YSU school officials, under Tressel's leadership, YSU's full-time enrollment has increased for three consecutive academic years. Freshman enrollment is up 31 percent from four years ago and Honor College enrollments have more than tripled.

During Tressel's tenure, there have many multiple new additions to the campus including a new Barnes & Noble student bookstore that houses a Starbucks cafe and new housing options that include The Enclave and University Edge.

The extension includes no pay increase and his annual salary will remain at $300,000.
