Four MCCTC students injured in school bus crash

Posted: Updated:
BEAVER TWP., Ohio -

A Lowellville school bus carrying 41 Mahoning County Career & Technical Center students crashed into an SUV on Western Reserve Road approaching Market Street around 2:45 pm. Thursday.

Ohio State Highway Patrol said Western Reserve is now open, but was closed until the crash was cleared.

According to Ohio State Highway Patrol, the driver of the SUV pulled out of Sheetz parking lot in front of the bus.

Troopers said the bus driver, 66-year-old Joseph McCree of Poland, could not stop the bus in time and ran into the SUV.

The 71-year-old woman driving the SUV, Betty McKinney of New Springfield, was taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Four of the students riding the bus were also taken by the ambulance, but none of them had life-threatening injuries.

Another bus came and took the students back to Poland Seminary High School where they were originally going.

The driver of the SUV was cited for failure to yield from a private drive.

Troopers are still investigating the crash.
