Sebring sixth graders to move to high school next year

Posted: Updated:
SEBRING, Ohio -

The Sebring School Board decided it's going to move its sixth graders to the high school starting next school year.

The decision came Monday night amid community members, those who the school board wanted to address concerns to before the vote.

This is the second meeting between the board and parents, one that Superintendent Toni Viscounte said went well.

"I feel that after the April 1 meeting that we had with them, we were able to address their concerns and questions, and as I said, by the end of the evening, they were planning for graduation for their fifth graders and seem to be embracing the move," said Viscounte.

The move isn't because they want to cut costs or close a school, but so sixth graders can join seventh and eighth graders for a new math and STEM curriculum that is being planned.

Viscounte also said teachers will move with the students to the high school.
