A west side Youngstown home was raided on Wednesday as part of a child pornography investigation.

One man is in custody and police suspect he may have been trying to destroy evidence as police ordered him to open the door.

SWAT Team members and the FBI armed with long guns are among the law enforcement officers who surrounded the home in the 300 block of South Hazelwood Avenue.  They were looking to question 29-year-old Nicholas Yukon as part of a child pornography investigation.

Youngstown Police Officer Kelly Jankowsk, who is also an agent with the Mahoning Valley Law Enforcement Task Force, said, "One of our agents on the Mahoning Valley Human Trafficking Task Force went on a covert law enforcement program, and got some child pornography downloads from this individual from an IP address from this residence."

When Youngstown Police and the Mahoning Valley Human Trafficking Task Force initially arrived on South Hazelwood, they say Yukon refused to come out, so they had to force their way into the home.  They believe he may have been trying to destroy evidence.

The prosecutor approved detectives entering the home, and Yukon was promptly arrested on charges of tampering with evidence and obstructing official business.

Armed with a search warrant, investigators confiscated evidence from the home looking for anything related to child pornography, and that includes all electronics; computers, cell phones, and flash drives.

Neighbor Branon Williams was shocked. "When you hear they got child pornography and you see the people that you wave to every day, and it turns out they're doing something kind of dark, and devious, it just makes you paranoid a little bit.  You know it's very unexpected."

Yukon, who is familiar to Youngstown police from previous charges including carrying a concealed weapon, could face even more charges as the investigation moves forward.

Officer Jankowski says, unfortunately, with advances in technology, raids on child pornography appear to be happening more frequently and can happen in any neighborhood at any time.
